Our editor recently tried a few Krazy Kiwi Kook Box meals – here’s more on her experience:
“I love a meal box for so many reasons: The convenience of not having to meal prep, come up with ideas and visit the shops to buy ingredients… The ease of cooking something delicious while putting in minimal effort is right up my alley, so I was thrilled to try Krazy Kiwi Kook Box, a meal kit service operating in the greater Cape Town area.
There are four different categories of meals to choose from: Family meals, keto meals, plant-based meals and health & fitness meals. Each easy-to-follow meal kit comes with a simple recipe and quality ingredients, allowing you to create delicious, healthy meals at home.
The recipes use local ingredients and fresh produce from local growers (and fresh meat supplied by the Krazy Kiwi), so you can trust the quality of the ingredients, plus, the recipes are updated every week so you can enjoy a variety of meals.
The meals are delivered to selected areas in and around Cape Town, Somerset West and Stellenbosch, and delivery is free. You simply place your order by 9am on a Thursday to receive your meal kits the following Monday.
I had a look at the various meals on offer and opted for the Family Meals as they were similar to the types of food we usually cook at home. I received three boxes: Asian Beef & Cashews, Pork Steak & Whipped Feta Roasties and Deboned Chicken Thighs and Roasted Cauliflower Curry.
What I loved the most about these meals is that they were super simple to prepare. After a long day of work, I seldom have the energy to prepare long or complicated dishes. Each meal took around 35 minutes to cook and while they were relatively simple and didn’t make use of a lot of ingredients, they were tasty and healthy. The only ingredients of my own that I needed were salt, pepper and olive oil. Everything else was included in the meal kits.
I love that all the meals are delivered to your home on a Monday, so that you can plan ahead for the week as to which meal you want to cook on which day. Each recipe card also includes a recommended time frame within which to cook it, to ensure the freshness of the ingredients.
The portions were generous in size (we received the boxes prepped for two) and I could tell that the ingredients were good quality. If you’re based in the greater Cape Town area and love healthy, convenient meals as much as I do, I highly recommend you give them a try.”
