Please can you help me form a skincare regime?

Question

So I did some research online and this is what I found out about my skin:

– Enlarged pores and produces oil mostly in t-zone
– Skin that may become red and flushes easily, gets tight and irritated by harsh products
– Occasional blemishes and cysts (weekly or monthly)
– May get clogged pores and blackheads (I do have a lot of blackheads on my nose and chin)
– Post-blemish red/dark scars that linger (if they mean scars from the occasional pimple, than yeah I get those and they take forever to “be-gone”)
– Wants smooth and healthy skin

My question is (and I know some cheap products don’t work so well – sometimes) what affordable skin care products can I use that will help my skin look healthy?

Answer

If I put together all the info you have given me, it sounds to me like you have an oily T-zone, but that you still experience flushing and sensitivity to some products (I am assuming this is most prominent on the cheeks?), and that you get the occasional breakouts and dark marks that remain after the break outs. So in a case like yours, I would recommend the following: During the day, use Lamelle’s Clarity active cleanse to wash your skin and use the Corrective AM cream in the morning. At night, you use Serra Restore cream as your night cream all over, and just on your T-Zone you can apply a small amount of the Clarity Active Control gel. Just also make sure that you use a very good SPF every single day. One of the Heliocare products would be a good choice. You will need to give your skin a bit of time to get used to the new products, so you will find that your skin will settle after about 4-6 weeks. If you get the odd pimples or break outs, you will need to use your Active control gel just on those spots. If you need any help getting more info on these products you are most welcome to contact any Skin Renewal Branch. You will find us on www.skinrenewal.co.za.

From Masoodah Ebrahim

Question

I’ve been suffering from acne my entire teen and tween years, at some point in my teens it got to a state whereby it was classified as severe acne and put on a very strong dosage of Roacuttane… thankfully it’s cleared with normal breakouts when it’s that time of the month. My main issue is I can never find a product that agrees with my skin or that actually clears up the oiliness and dry patches. Is there a skin care regiment that I can follow or a product that can help? PS: I’m exceptionally hairy as well and low threshold for pain.

Question from Lizelle Lloyd

Question

Hi Dr Maureen,

I am a 31 yr old mother with very limited time for skincare routine. I have recently been diagnosed with scalp atopic dermattis and have been put on a course of antibiotics for a full month. Ive only had severe cases after all three of my pregnancies with my last one been 8 months ago. How can I prevent this from returning and what products would you recommend for my scalp-keep in mind I have very curly ethic hair making it very difficult to use some products as I need extra moisture and conditioner for my hair. I have also recently noticed a mild case of eczema on my breast-making breastfeeding quite challenging.

Please help :)

From Tshehlana Noge

Question

Hi Dr Maureen, I have oily skin and in my 30s. I’m looking for a skincare treatment that will assist with clearing my skin and keep the oiliness at bay as well as serve as an anti aging. It doesn’t have to be in the same jar. I’m currently using Mineraline Time-it products for anti-aging, but it’s not doing anything for the oilyness and the random breakouts. Please could you advice.
