As the weather gets a little chilly, we’ve packed away our light fresh and floral fragrances to make way for headier, warmer scents. These are the five fragrances the BSA team is currently obsessing over.

Kate Spade New York Sparkle Eau de Parfum (100ml for R1399.00)

Created for the woman who leaves a little bit of sparkle everywhere she goes, this fragrance captures the spirit of the New York City evening as the sun sets and the sky is lit by the dazzling lights of the city. The scent boasts an irresistible, addictive, and exuberant blend of floral, gourmand notes: it opens with a blackcurrant note, underlined by Italian lemon for added freshness and a dash of spicy frosted pink peppercorn. At the heart, an exuberant bouquet of purple peonies and hawthorns unfold, and finally, vibrant cedar and oakwood extracts create a seductive trail, made deliciously addictive thanks to an added vanilla crème brûlée note.

What our editor says: “I fell in love with the signature Kate Spade New York fragrance that launched last year, so imagine my excitement when this beauty landed on my desk. It’s sexy, it’s sophisticated and it’s alluring, all while retaining Kate Spade’s signature element of playfulness and fun. The perfect night time fragrance, I find it absolutely intoxicating, and I’ve been wearing it almost non-stop since I received it. I might even go so far as to say it’s one of my favourite scents of the past few years!”

Lancôme Idôle Aura Eau de Parfum (50ml for R1660.00)

Lancôme Idôle Aura Eau de Parfum is a sun-kissed floral perfume that eludes the essence of rose and dazzling jasmine, accented by a refreshing aroma of salted vanilla. A young, edgy and bold fragrance by Lancôme, this scent is all about edgy femininity and inspiring women to tap into their inner Idôle. Idôle Aura is a fragrance for women sharing the light of success with others. Women who stand tall, ready to conquer the world.

What our editor says: “The first thing I noticed about this fragrance is the unique bottle it is housed in: It is the thinnest bottle I have ever seen! But more than that, it is also two-sided, in that both sides boast a unique design. The scent is absolutely beautiful – it’s warm, it’s creamy and it’s ultra-feminine. Rose and jasmine are two of my favourite fragrance notes, and this scent balances them beautifully with bergamot and salted vanilla. It’s warm and inviting with an alluring edge – the perfect scent to take from daytime into the evening.”

Superdry Kyoto Eau de Toilette (100ml for R495.00)

Inspired by the ancient Japanese city of Kyoto, where old age traditions are fused with a modern lifestyle, Kyoto’s minimalist and timeless qualities come to light in this sparkling scent. Woody and fruity, its fragrance notes include bergamot, mandarin, freesia, nutmeg, vetiver and musk. The sparkling citrus fruits harmonise with warm woody notes for a well-balanced scent that offers something unique.

What our editor says: “I’m so excited that Superdry’s fragrances are now available in South Africa, as we really lack a good selection of unisex scents here. I love Kyoto’s fresh and citrusy notes. It’s crisp and bright and has an uplifting effect as soon as you spritz it. It’s perfect for those in-between days when the sun is out but there’s a bite in the air. And how cool is the bottle? While the name alludes to Japan, the packaging design also reminds me of clean Japanese minimalism. I think a lot of couples will enjoy sharing this scent.”

You Belong by Brutal Fruit Eau de Toilette (80ml for R549.00)

Crafted in partnership with master perfumers and inspired by Brutal Fruit lovers, You Belong is a one-of-a-kind fragrance that blends sparkling citrus and floral top notes with a middle of sandalwood, plum and peach, subtly underscored by a base of tonka beans, labdanum and precious woods. The resulting bouquet is an elegant, visceral experience that carries with it the feeling of belonging.

What our editor says: “I’m not going to lie – when I first received the press release for this fragrance, I thought it was a hoax! But then it landed on my desk and I quickly realised that it wasn’t. I’ve always been partial to a Brutal Fruit, and this unexpected scent is the ultimate pairing to one of SA’s favourite drinks. It’s fruity, it’s warm and it’s inviting – much like the name suggests. The bottle is clean and elegant, and looks beautiful on my dresser. I think this fragrance is going to gain major popularity – and quickly.”

Giorgio Armani My Way Intense Eau de Parfum (50ml for R1920.00)

My Way Intense is an invitation to a journey of self-discovery, meaningful encounters and amplified experiences. An amplified florality on an addictive woody trail, made of consciously sourced ingredients. The scent opens with bright notes of orange blossom from Egypt. A new intense heart of tuberose from India unveils a creamy and velvety facet of the floral signature. At the base of the fragrance, the sandalwood from New Caledonia takes an addictive creamy turn, as it meets a voluptuous Vanilla from Madagascar.

What our editor says: “A more intense take on my beloved Giorgio Armani My Way fragrance, this scent is even more addictive than the original. It perfectly balances uplifting bright notes with warm floral notes, and the result is pure beauty: A fragrance that’s creamy, velvety and addictive. Plus, I love that the ingredients are sustainably sourced, and that refillable bottles are available for purchase. While I plan on wearing this throughout autumn and winter, it’s the kind of fragrance that can be worn all year round, regardless of the season. It has quickly become one of my favourites.”
