Acqua di Parma’s reimagined Colonia Il Profumo is the perfect blend of tradition and modernity

Acqua di Parma fragrances

Acqua di Parma’s very first fragrance, Colonia, was launched over 100 years ago, in 1916. An iconic fragrance, it has stood the test of time thanks to its beautiful mix of sunny Sicilian citrus fruits, uplifting florals, and warm woods.

Now, the Maison has welcomed a bold new era with the launch of Colonia Il Profumo, a modern interpretation of the classic Colonia. Merging over a century of tradition with contemporary elegance, this new fragrance boasts a heightened concentration and the addition of ylang-ylang, resulting in a richer and more intensified scent.

While Colonia Il Profumo may be a modernised version of the original, one thing has not changed—the scent is quintessentially Italian. The Italian bergamot and citrus notes capture the essence of Italy, instantly transporting you to the Sicilian coast.

The fragrance opens with vibrant citrus notes, including Italian bergamot, grapefruit, blood orange and petitgrain, elevated by the addition of ylang-ylang, which adds depth and intensity.

At the heart, rosemary and orange leaves are blended with ylang-ylang, and at the base, the earthy richness of vetiver oil blends with the depth of patchouli oil for a warm and sensual dry down.

The beautiful Art Deco bottle is a lovely addition to any dressing table, and the uplifting yellow packaging, once again, is so quintessentially Italian.

“I recently attended the media launch of Colonia Il Profumo at the gorgeous Skins V&A Waterfront store, and I was mesmerised by this new interpretation. It is fresh, uplifting, and sophisticated. I love that it’s genderless and easily blends with most other Acqua di Parma fragrances.

I’ve been layering it with Acqua di Parma Luce Di Rosa (a beautiful floral scent that uses rose notes in a way I have not experienced before), and the result is the most beautiful, soft, fresh, and intoxicating blend of quintessentially Italian fragrance notes.

It’s a warm and summery fragrance, but it’s suitable all year round. I would pair it with a warm, sensual scent in winter to complement the patchouli and ylang-ylang.

One of the highlights of the media launch was meeting the brand partners from Italy, who offered a wealth of knowledge, not just about Acqua di Parma, the brand, but also about fragrance in general.

I’ve been wearing this fragrance since the launch, and it’s quickly become a favourite in my household – I’ve even caught my husband using it!”
