The brand started off specialising in lighters and tobacco before introducing wristwatches and pens in 1926. By the 1970s the brand was well known for its menswear and today it has expanded to incorporate leather goods, accessories and fragrances too. With an ever-growing collection of luxurious men’s fragrances, Dunhill introduces its latest creation: Dunhill Desire Black.

As with all Dunhill fragrances, the bottle embodies the concept of the scent while staying true to classic Dunhill style. The sheer black texture of the bottle is sophisticated and sensual while the clever cap catches the eye with its textured detail. It is clearly a part of the recognisable Desire fragrance range, yet it is strong enough to stand on its own thanks to its contemporary and timeless appearance.

How does the actual fragrance live up to the sensual design of the packaging? It combines classic ingredients to create a scent that is both masculine as well as bold.

The opening notes of the fragrance are charismatic: the strength of black pepper is neatly combined with the refined citrus scents of bergamot, grapefruit and petitgrain. The fragrance’s timeless qualities come to the fore in the middle notes: saffron and cypress oils mix with Turkish rose and geranium to add intensity. Lastly, the base notes come together to form hazy, smokey warmth: vetiver, Arabian frankincense and Persian amber come together to create masculinity and raw desire.

  1. I would like to buy one for my darling husband just for a change, he has been using 1 Million for years now. The reviews are great especially the Dunhill Desire Red.

  2. I heard a rumour that Dunhill Desire Blue has been taken off the shelves. Hopefully the Black will remain. My boyfriend loves the Blue but as with everything good, sometimes things run its course and we have to find alternatives. Looking forward to trying this one out…

  3. I am a HUGE FAN of the Dunhill Desire Range with the Dunhill Desire Red being my ultimate favourite. I mix between the Dunhill Desire and Dunhill Desire Blue which I find to be more casual compared to the Red.

    The lasting power (scent staying power) of this fragrance is second to none and it really compliments my skin. I have yet to find a fragrance that has the lasting power of this one.

    My wife loves it on me and the black comes just in time for our anniversary which we celebrate later this month.

    I am generally reluctant to try new fragrances, but will not have a problem testing this one as it is from the House I know.

    I find Dunhill Desire to be quite unique, when you spray it, I for one cannot say “it smells like …” not to mention the bottle. It reminds me of (cigarette) Lighters and others’ of a flask. Everything of this fragrance = masculinity.
