What is the best way to tone down my "muffin top". I have tried cardio to no avail?

There is no such thing as spot training, which means you’ll have to be fit all over before you get results in your problem areas. Cardio sessions with sprinting intervals will torch extra calories, as will practicing compound exercises in your strength sessions. And lift heavy! In your weight training you should be lifting ‘til failure for real results. When it’s time to target your abs specifically, include twisting exercises to work those obliques, lower back and dreaded muffin top. Russian twists, side crunches and lunge side chops (browse the net for demos) are all effective.
