Bad skincare habits

Bad skincare habits

By now you’ve probably settled into a skincare routine, and you’re having to remember to wash and moisturise twice a day! This is the start to having great skin, but it’s not the only thing to take into account. Some skincare habits come easily, but if kept up, they can cause long-term damage.

Here are the top four bad skin habits to avoid:

1.    Touching your face
Our hands carry an unthinkable number of germs on them, and every time we touch our faces, these germs get transferred to our skin. Try to avoid touching your skin as much as possible, and if you have to, be sure to wash your hands first.

2.    Picking at spots
The temptation to pick or squeeze at a spot may be great, but the consequences just aren’t worth it. Not only will you spread the inflammation and possibly cause more breakouts, but you could be left with scarring too.

3.    Forgetting to remove your make-up
Whether you’re wearing a bit of make-up every day at school (sneaky sneaky!) or only on special occasions, it’s absolutely essential that you remove all of it before you go to bed. Going to sleep with it on will cause clogged pores and could lead to breakouts.

4.    Forgetting about sunscreen
Even if it’s cloudy outside, it’s vital to wear sunscreen every single day. Harmful UVA rays penetrate the skin all year round – even during winter – and the earlier you start to protect your skin, the better you will age.

Do you have a bad skincare habit you’re struggling to break?

  1. Clean face is a must for a perfect skin. Moisturize and maintain oil free products.

  2. I touch my face every 10 seconds. I always try to pop my pimples. I’ve got to stop.

  3. I have a good habit of constant need to wash my hands but letting go of these bad habits is going to be a serious challenge. Frustrating habitual ritual.

  4. Touching my face is something I’ve been trying to stop forever! Lol! It’s probably my only bad skincare habit.

    1. I think the WORST HABIT ever is going to sleep with makeup on. No matter how late I come home from partying or work, I will ALWAYS use a wet wipe and wipe off my make-up (even with tired half opened eyes). If you don’t, your skin is being suffocated whilst you sleep and the pores get blocked and you can break out in pimples. It is VERY important to remove your makeup.

Well if it helps, try and think about all the germs that you have accumulated whilst touching things. Money for example which circulates in prisons and all over the place – that definitely has some nasty germs on it… Thing about all those germs that are on your hands that you will apply to your face … Maybe it will help you stop.

  5. As much as I cringe, I admit that I also still commit these mistakes.. :( But you live and learn!

  6. It’s so difficult to not touch your face, but I think it’s really important! Also wearing sunscreen is one of the only proven ways to prevent premature aging. I am yet to find the perfect sunscreen for my combination skin though. May be a good topic for an article?
