This spring, we’re on the hunt for fragrances that offer something unique. We love a good back story to a scent, and if it can offer something different while still delivering a beautiful mix of fragrance notes, it gets our stamp of approval. Our editor’s chosen five fragrances that she believes everyone needs to try this spring.

A new fragrance duo crafted around a singular nuance: yellow. But what is it about this joyful colour that inspired one of the season’s hottest new fragrances? Valentino notes that Roma, one of Italy’s oldest and most beautiful cities, is bathed in yellow light, and that yellow is one of the city’s most emblematic colours. Yellow is energetic, dynamic and uplifting. To translate the powerful optimism of yellow in scent, Valentino incorporated electrifying citrus notes in both fragrances.

Donna opens with Italian bergamot and primofiore lemon, before embracing a floral heart with green accents. Like the Roman sun, white musk, Madagascan vanilla absolute and Virginia cedarwood leave a warm and comforting trail. Uomo opens with Italian mandarin, Mexican lime and energetic pineapple accord. Spicy nutmeg, cinnamon and cardamom heighten the herbaceous heart as Madagascan vanilla and Virginia cedarwood give way to an addictive aura of intense intrigue.

Inspired by the patterns carved into the ashlar of Italian palazzos, the rockstud has become a Valentino icon, and gives both bottles a modern edge. Projecting the invigorating yellow light of the scents themselves, these glass prisms exude optimism.
