Whether it’s a family member, friend, friend of a friend or even a colleague, we all know someone who is or was affected by breast cancer. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and BeautySA has round up a few of our favourite brands and how they are (and you can) help spread awareness this October.
Avon & Justine
On 21 October in Johannesburg and 4 November in Cape Town, Avon and Justine are inviting you to join in their crusade against breast cancer with a family fun walk, the iThemba Walkathon. The Avon Justine iThemba Crusade of Hope raises funds for breast cancer education and awareness locally, and you can help by joining their 5km or 8km fun walk.
ghd
ghd’s styling teams will be hosting a style-a-thon at malls in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban on 27 and 28 October, and are inviting you to help them raise funds for the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA). If you donate R50 you’ll get you hair professionally styled with all the ghd goodies and the new ghd air hairdryer! Their annual limited edition Pink styler will also go on sale again, with R100 being donated from each sale towards CANSA. This year get your hairs (and hair) on the Cherry Blossom limited edition styler for only R2,380.
Revlon
The Revlon Cares, Your Lips Can Save Lives campaign is all about getting the word out there. Revlon is encouraging all women, with the help of Emma Stone and Halle Berry, to create awareness around breast cancer by talking about it and encouraging every woman you know to go for screening tests. Watch their simple, yet pretty powerful campaign video…
Oh So Heavenly
For every Positively Pink product bought, Oh So Heavenly will donate a portion of the sales to the Look Good… Feel Better Foundation. Even though an amount of 50c per product will be donated, Oh So Heavenly have managed to already donate R300 000 to this worthy cause. The Look Good…Feel Better Foundation helps to improve the lives of women undergoing cancer treatment by helping them restore their self-confidence and morale. The foundation provides complimentary workshops where these ladies receive professional advice and guidance on how to cope with the emotional and appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment.
Great Lengths
Our local celebrities are also joining South Africa’s breast cancer awareness campaign, this time with Great Lengths hair extensions. Great Lengths will be donating a portion of sales of their 100% natural human pink hair extension to CANSA. Join Cindy Nell Roberts, Zizo Beda and Miss SA Belinda Bam and get your pink extension (it’s only R100) at one of the more than 250 Great Lengths partner salons nationwide.

I’m definitely joining the Cape Town fun walk.
Great initiative taken by some big brands
Let’s walk for a good course!! Let’s join Justine and Avon ladies!!
Thanks for this info.
This is something that many many woman do not pay attention to, either because they are young and think that it will not affect them or because they don’t have any history of cancer in their family. We really need to take care of ourselves and do regular checks.

Great initiative, well done to all the companies involved.
We gotta take care…thanks for these great initatives!
A heart aching issue but so important!
Awesome! It’s so easy to think that ‘it won’t happen to me’. I agree, the more people talk about it, the more lives will be saved! Thank you for the article.
