“While I didn’t change my entire beauty product routine during the December holidays, I decided to put a few of the new products I’d recently received, to the test. With some extra time on my hands I set out to find the best new beauty products for the summer season. These are a few of the ones that made the cut…” – Anien, BeautySouthAfrica Editor.

Labello Glamour Lip Collection & Essential Lip Collection Value Packs (R79.99)

Rated: The beauty products our editor loved using during the holidays 2

What they say: Introducing two new Value Packs from Labello – offering the best-selling lip care variants in a Value Pack. The Labello Essential Lip Collection with the Original, Hydro Care and Active for Men variants, and the Glamour Lip Collection with Strawberry Shine, Cherry Shine and Blackberry Shine variants. Now you can have all your Labello favourites to choose from at a price you’ll love.

What we say: “I’m a long-time Labello fan and I always have at least two variants either in my handbag or in my makeup drawer. These new value packs are brilliant, because they offer three of your favourite variants grouped together, at a better value price (they retail for around R35 individually, so R79.99 for three offers a major saving!). Having three also means you can keep them in different places so that you always have one near, be it in your handbag, in the car or at home.” – Anien, Editor

Lee Stafford For The Love Of Curls (from R119.95)

Rated: The beauty products our editor loved using during the holidays 3

What they say: For The Love Of Curls is all about keeping it simple. With an easy-to-navigate curl code, the packaging says it all so that you know exactly which products have been created for your curl type. The collection was created for all curly girl hair types and is divided into three categories from washday to refresh and style. Bursting with naturally-derived, sustainably-sourced and strengthening ingredients such as capuacu butter, shea butter and organic coconut oil, the range restores, repairs and loves your curls. From a sulphate-free shampoo, to a mask, serum, moisture mist, custard cream and more, the collection caters for your every need.

What we say: “I don’t have curly hair myself, so I gave these products to a friend to try, and the feedback was that the range really understands the needs of curly girls. Everyone’s curls are different, which means that you need to be able to mix and match products depending on your circumstances and daily needs. This range is brilliant because not only do the products actually work (I have this on good authority!) but you can mix and blend them, creating your very own curl cocktail. Every product in the range smells incredible and we love that they’re free from sulphates, mineral oils, alcohol, oil-based silicones and waxes.”  – Anien, Editor

Eau Thermal Avène SPF 50+ Fragrance Free Fluid (R295.00)

Rated: The beauty products our editor loved using during the holidays 4

What they say: SPF 50+ Fluid offers ultra-broad spectrum daily sun protection. It’s ideal for normal sensitive to combination skin on the face. Its light texture allows penetration in 3 seconds and leaves an invisible finish on the skin. SPF 50+ Fluid leaves a transparent, non-shiny finish on the skin and is an excellent base for everyday makeup. The formula is also water resistant. This new sun care product incorporates TriAsorB ™, a new ultra-broad spectrum sun filter that protects against UV rays and beyond with protection from the skin-ageing accelerator Blue Light up to 450nm. This innovation allows for a 95% reduction in cell damage induced by solar radiation and thus contributes to the effective fight against sun damage and visible skin damage.

What we say: “It’s common knowledge that the sun is the biggest contributor to the signs of ageing, but did you know that blue light (a colour in the visible light spectrum that can be seen by the human eye) also has a big role to play? While it’s pretty much impossible to avoid blue light, we can shield our skin from it by applying a sunscreen like this one, which contains a brand new sun filter that protects against the harmful effects of visible light. The texture is amazing – it literally ‘disappears’ when you massage it into your skin and has a dry touch, so you won’t experience any oiliness or stickiness . I love that it is fragrance-free as this makes it gentler on the skin. It’s reef-safe and comes in an eco-designed tube made from 64% recycled plastic. If you have normal to combination skin, you need to try this product!” – Anien, Editor

Clere Gly-Co-Jelly (R22.99)

Rated: The beauty products our editor loved using during the holidays 5

What they say: Gly-Co-Oil has been specifically formulated to reduce the appearance of stretch marks and revitalise dehydrated skin. It contains three deceivingly simple, yet powerful skincare ingredients.

Glycerine – A humectant that helps retain moisture; it keeps everything moisturised without compromising any of the other ingredients in the product. All skin types can use glycerine and benefit from it. Not only does glycerine moisturise the skin, it also pulls moisture up from the lower levels of the skin (the dermis) to the upper levels (the epidermis), essentially allowing the skin to help moisturise itself.

Petroleum Jelly – Petroleum jelly is non-comedogenic, so it is safe for all skin types and it is most beneficial for dryness. Softening severely cracked, dry, and inflamed areas, it works by preventing loss of water in the skin, allowing natural oils to nourish and repair. Smooth over cracked heels or dry elbows, slip on a pair of socks, go to sleep, and wake up to healthy, hydrated skin.

Tissue Oil – This head-to-toe, multi-purpose solution can be used for just about anything. Most commonly used to treat the appearance of stretch marks, it increases the elasticity of the skin, allowing it to stretch and relax without leaving any physical signs of the process. By discouraging the overproduction of sebum, an oily substance in the skin that can cause acne and other dermal conditions, tissue oil can help reduce the appearance of acne scarring.

What we say: “I love when so-called simple ingredients come together to form a fantastic formula that delivers on its promises. This oil is an example of just that. Its three main ingredients are considered some of the very basics of skincare, and that’s because they work. This is a great product to add to your body lotion, pour into your bath or even apply to the skin as it is. It helps lock in moisture and keep skin soft and silky smooth. It’s also very affordable, so you don’t have to break the bank to get the moisturised skin you’ve been longing for.” – Anien, Editor

Sothys Organics Skincare (from R595.00)

Rated: The beauty products our editor loved using during the holidays 7

What they say: Highly specialized, Sothys has stood out ever since its founding by its unfailing commitment to beauty research and innovation in order to offer skincare with the best of nature’s benefits. In the heart of the Corrèze, Sothys has created the Sothys Organics line, the perfect combination of organic skincare and advanced efficiency: An organic and vegan certified range with a cosmeceutical touch.

The range comprises:

Sothys Organics Cleansing Oil (R595.00): Enriched with oleo-extract of honeysuckle with antioxidant properties, this cleansing oil efficiently eliminates superficial skin impurities including waterproof makeup. Its texture transforms into a milky emulsion when water is added.

Sothys Organics Radiance Mask (R645.00): Bringing a splash of hydration to the skin, this mask gets its power from revitalizing birch sap and drenches skin with freshness. Radiance and a moisturizing boost for your skin.

Sothys Organics Revitalising Emulsion (R695.00): This light moisturiser contains a complex of organic plant active ingredients (birch sap, hawthorn floral water and retinol-like alfalfa extract), reducing signs of fatigue, visibly smoothing the features and offering freshness and radiance to the skin.

Sothys Organics Skin Radiance Exfoliant (R595.00): This gentle exfoliant combines raspberry seeds and Camargue rice grains with revitalizing birch sap. It delicately eliminates impurities and dead skin cells. Skin texture is refined and the skin becomes glowing and radiant.

What we say: “This range showcases perfect harmony between natural ingredients and scientific innovations. Offering the very best in natural ingredients, Sothys Organics is a collection that works hard to fight the signs of ageing, nourish and moisturise the skin while committing to a lower environmental impact and kinder formulations. I love that the range is certified organic and that all the products are vegan… and I absolutely love that the range is plastic neutral.

While it ticks all the boxes when it comes to formulations and efficacy, this is also a beautiful range to experience if you care about the sensorial aspects of your skincare. Each product has a beautiful delicate scent, the textures are light yet luxurious and feel great on the skin. I am easily put off the scents of natural and organic skincare products, but I adore these scents. In fact, had I not known that the products were organic, I would never have guessed that they were! If you’re looking for a greener skincare regime but you still want the results of cosmeceutical skincare, then this may be the range you’ve been looking for.” – Anien, Editor
