The importance of SPF in winter

We all know the importance of wearing SPF in the summer months. But do you know the importance of wearing a sunscreen during winter? Yes, this means applying SPF even if there is full cloud cover and slight drizzle outside.

You may not feel the UVA rays penetrating your skin during the cooler months, but these are the sun’s rays that cause ageing. UVA rays penetrate through your car windows, office glass and even off your computer screen. Cloudy days are the most dangerous too!

All the above forms contribute to photoageing, which is due to over exposure of UVA and UVB rays, resulting in skin damage. Dark spots, fine lines, wrinkles and loss of elasticity are some of the symptoms one may start to notice over the years.

Every day when you apply your moisturiser and make-up, apply a layer of SPF to your face, neck and hands. In a couple of years you will thank yourself!

  1. I have learned the hard way. My skin has got dark spots because of too much exposure to the sun. I am currently treating the dark spots and I have made a resolution that I will never leave my home without sunscreen. I also carry sunscreen in my handbag.

  2. I have used Cetaphil UVA/UVB Defense SPF 50+ its good protection and doesn’t cause breakouts but I wouldn’t suggest it for oilier skin types as it does tend to leave a shine.

  3. Lack of sunscreen application in winter is probably the easiest way to wreck your skin because most people tend to forget that the sun is just as potent, even though we’re thinking about the cold. I always keep a pocket size SPF 50 in my bag for touch ups during the day.

  4. I never knew any of this. I am so shocked. I will be sure to use my SPF in the winter as well.

  5. I find the sun is very harmful in winter months and a SPF is required to protect the skin.
