Too busy to exercise

Too busy for exerciseThere’s no need to try to fit in a full workout at the end or the beginning of your day. FitSugar got these tips from celeb trainer Harley Pasternak…

We’re all for scheduling time for a workout, but sometimes days get too hectic to even think about getting to the gym. On those cant-fit-it-all-in days, take a tip from celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak: spread it out.

‘[Exercising] doesn’t have to be a big event in the day,’ Harley recently told FitSugar. ‘It can be something that adds up throughout the course of the day, whether it be walking or taking the stairs or doing some postural work earlier in the day, later in the day doing some arm [workouts], and later in the day doing your thighs. You don’t have to make it all at once.’

Harley’s favorite ways to squeeze in a workout? The trainer to Jessica Simpson, Hilary Duff, and Jennifer Hudson (just to name a few) recommends investing in a pedometer and wearing comfortable shoes to encourage yourself to stay active all day, as well as downloading fitness apps and searching online for workouts to help you burn calories minutes at a time.

Working out at home can save time as well, which is one reason why Harley also recently released Harley Pasternak’s Hollywood Workout, an interactive Wii and Xbox Kinect video game that tracks your stats and progress throughout the 25-minute workouts. ‘I want everybody who has four square feet around them to know that they can get a great workout,’ Harley says. ‘You don’t need a gym membership.’

How do you squeeze in a workout on a hectic day?

  1. Awesome advuce! Been following these tips and doing some calf raises while brushing my teeth every day for those few minutes. Calves are killling me, this really works!

  2. It’s a serious struggle to find the motivation to exercise after a long day at work – and there is no way I will wake up at 5am every morning to exercise. But luckily the weather is nicer outside so I will be walking more and more :)

  3. I am so demotivated when it comes to exercise however it has been pondering on my mind for a long time as i know it will improve my overall lifestyle and wellbeing.

  4. plus if you get a gym subscription you will force yourself to make time as you are paying for it lol so thats a good motivation to wake up earlier than usual

  5. tottaly agree i always take the stairs instead of the lift it is such a great workout esp if you run
