We put the new Dr.PAWPAW skincare range to the test

If you’ve come across Dr.PAWPAW before, you’ll likely know the brand for their iconic Multipurpose Soothing Balm, a versatile balm that can be used by the whole family to heal, nourish, hydrate and soothe skin. It’s gained somewhat of a cult status and has won plenty of awards.

We’re big fans of the original, as well as the tinted versions that followed. They offer a hint of colour perfect for cheeks and lips, all while nourishing skin with the goodness of papaya extract.

Now, Dr.PAWPAW fans will be thrilled to learn that the product offering has expanded significantly, with a range of skincare products now available from Wellness Warehouse.

What can you expect from Dr.PAWPAW skincare? Cruelty-free and vegan, the streamlined range offers nine easy-to-use and multipurpose products, suitable for all skin types.

The range brings to life the new concept of “papayaluronic”, which refers to the combination of papaya extract – Dr.PAWPAW’s signature ingredient – with eight hyaluronic acids that penetrate the various layers of the skin to offer intense hydration.

This ingredient is present in all the products throughout the range and is designed not only to offer immediate hydration, but to also offer the skin long-lasting hydration, plumpness and a stronger skin barrier.

The range offers a complete skincare regime, consisting of a cleanser, serum, eye cream, two day creams, night cream and sheet masks. Our editor has been putting a few of the products to the test – here are her thoughts:

“Filled with the goodness of papaya seed oil, jojoba oil and olive oil, this cleansing balm effortlessly removes sebum, dirt and impurities without stripping the skin of its moisture. It’s a great makeup remover too, and it even takes off my waterproof mascara. It leaves skin feeling soft, silky and refreshed.”

4In1 Face Serum (R399.95)
“Combining four serums in one, this vegan formula is powered by papayaluronic, eight types of hyaluronic acid, vitamin C and bakuchiol (nature’s answer to retinol). Designed to hydrate, brighten, calm and smooth skin, it has a lovely light texture that absorbs into skin with ease, and leaves it feeling quenched and silky smooth.”

Brightening Eye Cream (R329.95)
“Most of us can do with a bit of brightening around the eye area. This formula combines papayaluronic with retinol (for its age renewal benefits) and aloe vera (to soothe the delicate eye area) to help minimise the formation of lines and wrinkles, hydrate and brighten. It feels soothing on the skin and I love the matte, velvety finish.”

SPF 50+ PA++++ Day Cream (R489.95)
“This fast-absorbing day cream offers broad-spectrum protection against UVA and UVB rays without leaving that dreaded white cast. Added vitamin E softens and nourishes skin. It feels fantastic on the skin and sits beautifully under makeup – in fact – I find the texture acts as a primer and actually helps perfect my foundation application.”

Rejuvenating Night Cream (R489.95)
“This night cream works hard while you sleep to slow down the formation of lines and wrinkles (thanks to retinol), calm skin (thanks to aloe vera) and intensely hydrate and soften (thanks to eight types of hyaluronic acid). It feels richer than the day cream which is lovely for night time, and it has a light camomile fragrance which is very relaxing for the evening.”

Your Gorgeous Skin Sheet Masks (R109.95)

“I love a good sheet mask, and these are great! First and foremost, it’s important to mention that the Dr.PAWPAW sheet masks are biodegradable (we shouldn’t be supporting any that aren’t), and can even be popped in the food bin. There are three variants available:
Soothing – softens skin and relieves redness due to dryness.
Hydrating – helps relieve dry skin, increase radiance and soften.
Glowing – has firming properties, softens skin and promotes a youthful appearance.
You simply pop one on for 15 minutes, allow it to get to work, and then gently peel it off. Such a treat!”
