We review the acclaimed Pomadent Pomabrush (and had all our questions answered by experts) 1

The debate between manual and electric toothbrushes is ongoing, but recent research has shown that electric toothbrushes do in fact perform better when it comes to removing plaque and bacteria from teeth and gums.

When it comes to selecting an electric toothbrush, it’s important to know that all brands and models are not made equal. To get the most out of your brush, and keep your teeth in their best (and healthiest) condition, it’s important to choose a trusted brand that offers superior performance. We were recently introduced to Pomadent’s Pomabrush, one of the most esteemed and coveted electric toothbrushes on the market.

The Pomabrush combines elegance and convenience to create an electric toothbrush that isn’t just enjoyable to use and stylish to look at, but that also has an award-winning design that elevates your brushing experience. It has 15 000 sonic vibrations per minute, and promises to clean teeth up to ten times better than a manual toothbrush.

It has a sleek silicone body that’s soft to the touch and looks fantastic in your bathroom, plus it comes in a luxurious charging case that’s convenient for travelling.

We were lucky enough to receive a sleek back Pomadent Sonic Toothbrush to test out. Here’s our editor’s review:

“It took me years to convert from manual brushing to using an electric toothbrush as I somehow always thought my teeth were cleaner after a manual brush. This was of course entirely untrue, and probably as a result of the fact that manual brushing feels harder on the teeth (subconsciously making you think it works better) and brushing with an electric toothbrush is much gentler on the teeth and gums.

Once I discovered a good quality electric toothbrush (well into my adult years), it’s been almost impossible for me to go back to manual, and truth be told, I doubt I ever will. I was so thrilled to try the Pomadent brush as I read fantastic reviews online, and quickly learnt that it’s one of the very best on the market.

It comes with two different brush heads – a pure silicone one (the gentler option) and a nylon-silicone one (which offers a bit more precision and a deeper clean) and is housed in a gorgeous charging case that you can easily take with you when going away, or just keep somewhere safe for whenever your brush needs charging (which is only about three times per year!).

In terms of brushing, the Pomadent is probably the best brush I’ve ever used. It feels gentle in my mouth, yet my teeth feel slippery and thoroughly cleaned after every use. I can almost liken it to that feeling you get after you’ve been to see the oral hygienist!

I love the built-in two-minute timer. It pauses every 30 seconds, indicating that it’s time to move on to the next quadrant. This makes it really easy to ensure you cover all sections of your mouth and brush for a sufficient amount of time.

I’m all about ease and convenience and one of the best things about this brush (other than its great cleaning ability) is how long the battery lasts. You get around 120 days battery life with the convenient PomaCase (a sleek case that charges your brush while it’s stored inside) and once fully charged, your brush should have enough battery power for about a month. This case is fantastic for travelling, and I love that you don’t need additional charging stations and wires to charge your brush.

Overall, it’s been an absolute pleasure using my Pomabrush, and if you’re in the market for an electric toothbrush that offers exceptional performance, convenience and style, I highly recommend you give this one a try.”

We asked Karin König and Fred de Beer from Pomadent a few questions about brushing and electric toothbrushes:

1. Why do you recommend an electric toothbrush over a manual toothbrush?
“The electric toothbrush is proven to be more effective at removing plaque and bacteria. The sonic vibrations of the Pomabrush loosen plaque and debris from teeth, pushing toothpaste in between teeth and reaching places that no manual brush can. The 2-minute integrated timer that briefly pauses every 30 seconds, ensures that you brush for the perfect period, as recommended by dentists worldwide, spending enough time in each quadrant to optimise your brushing experience and elevate your daily dental routine. Once you have used the Pomabrush, you’ll never consider brushing manually again.”

2. What sets the Pomadent Pomabrush apart from competing toothbrushes?
“Pomadent’s Pomabrush is not just another electric toothbrush. It seamlessly integrates into South Africans’ self-care by offering a sophisticated, lifestyle-focused and advanced dental care solution. It takes the act of toothbrushing a step further by using sonic vibration at 15 000 vibrations per minute. The brush also charges inside a matching case that doesn’t require a charging port connection. While the toothbrush requires charging once a month, its case can be charged every 120 days (that’s only 3 times a year!). Given the evolving technology and wellness landscape in SA, it was the perfect time to introduce a cutting-edge solution. One that addresses dental hygiene, but also elevates confidence as you start and end your day.”

3. Is there a correct and incorrect way of using an electric toothbrush?
“How many times per day should you brush using an electric toothbrush? It is recommended to brush your teeth twice daily for a total of 4 minutes – 2 minutes in the morning and 2 minutes in the evening. The Pomabrush also enables you to customise your brushing experience as it comes with a set of two brush heads – nylon-silicone for a deep clean (the nylon is charcoal-infused) and pure medical-grade antimicrobial silicone for gentleness.”

4. Is it safe to use an electric toothbrush in the shower?
“The Pomabrush is fully waterproof and can be used in the shower. It’s only the charging case that is not waterproof.”

5. Any tips for getting the most out of your Pomadent brush?
“The Pomadent range includes accessories such as the Pomaclip. The Pomaclip is a magnetic toothbrush holder with pre-applied adhesive, allowing it to stick to a flat surface. It’s ideal for placing your Pomabrush against a bathroom mirror, for instance. Getting the most out of your Pomabrush – just enjoy the brushing experience! It’s effortless, elegant and so beautiful, you want to grace your bathroom with its presence!”
