Blushers, bronzers and highlighters – what really is the difference between them all? BeautySA brings you the different types of cheeky products out there.
Type: Cream blush
Cream blushers are a weightless creamy texture that provides a smooth, silky flush of colour to your cheeks. It offers buildable coverage, and it can be applied with your fingers or a brush.
TRY: essence Soufflé Touch Cream Blush, R39.95 and Revlon Photo Ready Cream Blush
Type: Powder blush
This is probably the most used type when it comes to blushers. Available in so many shades, pinks and peachy tones are the most popular. This convenient powder is applied with a brush to the apples of your cheeks to give you that ‘blushing’ effect.
TRY: Elizabeth Arden Color Intrigue Cheekcolor, R210 and Bloom Powder Blush, R200
Type: Cheek tint
This is quite a fun product and usually can be applied to the cheeks and lips. It almost looks like nail polish but gives off a pretty tint. It comes in a convenient bottle that’s nice to pop into your bag for touch ups. Pop some onto your lips too.
TRY: 2 True Cheek ‘n’ Lip Tint, R34.99
Type: Bronzing powder
This is my favourite of all the cheek products. I love it as it allows you that sun-kissed look even in winter, and it offers you that ultimate glow. Applying bronzer will help even out your complexion too, but apply it to the spots on your face where the sun would naturally hit (forehead, nose, cheeks and chin). Remember to choose the right shade and one that isn’t too dark for your skin tone though.
TRY: Clarins Bronzing Duo, R360 and Elizabeth Arden Pure Finish Bronze Powder, R260
Type: Highlighter
This is a beautiful product to apply to your cheekbones to help define and highlight the area. You can wear a highlighter alone or on top of your foundation and blusher, but in this instance applied to your cheekbones. Gold-hued highlighters are great on warm undertones whereas silvery-white hues compliment cool undertones. Some highlighters in powder form come in a contrast of colours that can then be mixed together to create a perfect highlighter.
TRY: Guerlain Perles de Nuit Meteorites

Must try the cheek tint
I use bronzer to combat having a pale face even in summer (I use factor 50 every day) but I am not sure about using a blush as well, and I am never sure of the right shade of blush to choose. I have blonde hair and green eyes, pale skin
I think the mousse blush looks good!

I’m a no-fuss kinda girl, and the cream blush is a winner
