If you follow us on Instagram you’ll know that we’re major fans of Collection Grands Crus by French perfumery Berdoues. The collection is inspired by some of the world’s most beautiful destinations, each scent designed to capture the beauty of its destination.
The latest fragrance to hit our shores is Guaria Morada – a luxurious interpretation of the Costa Rican landscape.
Known for its rainforests, active volcanoes, high mountains, palm beaches and coral reefs, Costa Rica is not only breathtakingly beautiful, but it offers a sensory overload. ‘‘In my mind, Costa Rica is like a huge palette of colours, a life-size painting! The blue of the ocean and the green of the exuberant jungle dotted with exotic plants, each more incredible than the last. There is something magnificent and sumptuous about it, and at the same time so simple in the casual, natural raw beauty. So I thought of this fragrance as an olfactory Eden, a tender floral scent with fruity hints,” says Mylene Alran, Berdoues perfumer.
Floral and fruity notes are brought together by one of the best scents Costa Rica has to offer: the guaria morada flower. Native to Costa Rica, the guardia morada is a species of orchid, and also happens to be the country’s national flower. It is believed to be a symbol of luck and good fortune.
The guaria morada is balanced by three significant raw materials to give this fragrance its unique scent: orange from Brazil, amyris from Haiti and patchouli from Indonesia.
The fragrance is perfectly balanced. Sweet, but not too sweet. Floral, but not overly floral. And exotic without being completely unfamiliar. It’s the perfect scent for spring and summer, but if like us, you’re trying to escape the cold of winter, this will transport you to warmer shores.
