Five things you might not have known about fragrance 1

Choosing a fragrance is a very personal decision, which is not only based on an individual’s preference but also the time of day, where they are going and what they are doing. Applying a scent should be the final step when getting ready, and for many women, this impacts their confidence, the way they feel and how they approach their day.

Zaweer Ebrahim, from fragrance brand Playgirl, says that a fragrance can express who you are and who you want to be: “Applying a fragrance can make you feel attractive, sexy, bold, understated or playful – all with a simple ‘spritz’.”

“The Playgirl VIP range consists of Eau de Toilette, as well as more affordable spray and roll-on deodorant products – all boasting the same scent, so you can choose a format best suited to your day – a deodorant for the office and the eau de toilette for a night out.”

Five things you might not have known about fragrance 2

Ebrahim shares five interesting facts about fragrances to help you choose the right one for you:

  1. Heat activates the scent

Applying a scent to your pulse points (wrists, behind the ears) means that the scent is located on points where the blood vessels are closest to the skin. This means that the fragrance is heated slightly, making the scent radiate further.

  1. Scent should be treated gently

When most people apply a scent, they spritz their wrist and then quickly rub it against their other wrist. Ebrahim says that this is a common error, “Rubbing your wrists together can impact the top notes. Secondly, it mixes the perfume with your natural oils, which can change the way it smells. Spritz, let it dry and enjoy!”

  1. Scent differs from person to person

The oil levels in your skin, your diet and the pH or acidity of your skin can all affect how a fragrance smells when applied. Your uniqueness directly affects the scent, making it even more distinct!

  1. Moisture helps to maintain fragrance

Applying a layer of moisturising cream or lotion prior to your fragrance each morning means that your scent is likely to hold for longer. Layering your scent with a similar fragranced body lotion will amplify the scent. Ebrahim says that this was a motivation for launching Playgirl body lotions and cremes, both of which offer long-lasting moisture with the added benefit of ‘built-in’ fragrance.

  1. Scent can improve your mood

A scent can be a wonderful mood enhancer evoking feelings of happiness, joy and certainly more confidence.  Special memories are often also remembered through nostalgic fragrances.
