Now, this innovative brand brings us a first – Bio-Oil Body Lotion, a ground-breaking, ultra-light formulation with more than double the oil content of other moisturisers. But why a body lotion? Body lotions are popular because they are quickly and easily absorbed, allowing you to get dressed straight away. But, due to their lightness and high water content, they are typically less moisturising than creams and oils.
The new Bio-Oil Body Lotion is unique, in that it’s lighter than the average body lotion, but more effective than thicker creams and butters. Bio-Oil research and development director David Letschert says: “The difference between our Body Lotion and other body lotions is that we have, on average, double the amount of oil. In normal body lotions, you will find around 20% oil, and in our Body Lotion there is 42% oil. We kept the potency very high, yet we achieved this ultralight feel, so we’ve got the best of both worlds.”
So how do you incorporate an oil into a lotion? Bio-Oil did this by developing the first ever “shake before use” body moisturiser. By gently shaking the product before use, the oil disperses back into the lotion and activates its powerful formulation.

I’ve loved Bio-Oil since the very first oil came to market, and I’m always excited to see what they have to offer when a new product launches. This new Body Lotion took me somewhat by surprise. I expected a Bio-Oil body lotion to be thick and somewhat oily. What I wasn’t expecting was a lotion thinner than any other lotion in my stash that absorbs instantly, yet offers some of the best hydration I’ve encountered.
The fluid is extremely thin in consistency, yet has a very high oil content. The water and oil is tightly bound together in the emulsion, and before you can use the lotion, you need to shake the bottle to ensure it is mixed.
But enough about the formulation. What I really love about this product is the results. My skin tends to be dry all year round, but winter is particularly harsh, leaving me scaly and flaky. The Bio-Oil Body Lotion has solved that problem for me. Not only does my skin feel softer and smoother, but it also looks more even and radiant. I’ve since also started applying it to the back of my hands and my skin is looking plumper and much healthier.
