How to use beard oil

How to use beard oil 1

If you’re the proud owner of facial hair, chances are you’ve come across an array of beard oils when you shop for your grooming products.

Like the hair that grows on your head, facial hair also requires maintenance and care. This is where beard oil comes in – a handy product that’s easy to use, it offers a multitude of benefits for your facial hair and skin underneath.

The most obvious benefit of beard oil is moisturisation. Not only does it provide facial hair with much-needed moisture, but it also moisturises the skin beneath the beard, keeping it soft and healthy.

This added moisture leads to softer and more manageable hair, allowing you to trim and style your facial hair more easily. Beard oil also helps combat the pesky itchiness associated with beard growth. If you’re only going to purchase one beard care product, it has to be an oil – its versatility makes it the number one choice for most men.

How much do you need?

This depends on the length and thickness of your beard – the longer your beard, the more oil you’ll need. A few drops is usually sufficient.

How do I know which oil to choose?

Most beard oils consist of carrier oils and essential oils. When selecting a beard oil, be sure to choose a reputable brand that’s known for manufacturing high quality grooming products. FINO Beard Oil (R150.00) is a multi-use blend of non-greasy natural carrier oils and healing essential oils that nourish and moisturise the beard as well as the skin underneath. It can be used daily for a softer and more manageable beard, and it also makes the perfect shaving oil, plus it protects against dry and flaky skin under the beard. It can be used as a tissue oil or facial oil to nourish and soften skin and when regularly massaged into the skin beneath the beard, it may encourage beard growth.

How often should I apply beard oil?
This is entirely up to you and your beard’s needs, but we would recommend using it at least once per day to keep your beard soft and moisturised.

Applying beard oil is a really simple process. Here are our tips for beginners:

Step 1

Always start with a clean beard. Start off by washing your face and beard with a good quality cleanser like FINO MAN Face and Beard Wash (R89.95) which gently removes daily impurities and promotes soft and moisturised skin whilst protecting against ingrown hair and bumps. Gently pat your skin and beard with a towel to absorb excess moisture. While your beard is still damp, apply a few drops of beard oil to the palm of your hand.

Step 2

Gently rub your hands together to spread the oil evenly, then press the oil as closely as possible into your skin so that the roots of your beard and the skin underneath your beard is moisturised.

Step 3

Once you’ve applied the oil to your skin and the roots of your beard, it’s time to apply the product to the rest of your facial hair. Work the oil through your beard in an even manner. Some men like to start from the sides and work towards the centre, but it’s entirely up to you. We recommend using both upward and downward motions to ensure the product is spread evenly and all hair is covered.

Step 4

If you have a moustache, you may want to use your fingers to smooth it down or turn the ends out slightly. Using a beard comb, lightly comb your beard to smoothe the hair and spread any product that might have accumulated anywhere.

There you have it – beard oil in a flash! While it goes to work immediately to moisturise, soften and protect, you’ll also see impressive results from long-term use. The more you use beard oil consistently, the softer and more manageable your facial hair will become and the healthier it will be.
