We were invited to experience Skin Recode first-hand, and after a thorough customised skin analysis with Dr Danielle Gounder (more about that later), our editor was treated to one of Skin Recode’s signature facials, the Bright Code Activation Facial.
“It’s been a while since I experienced a skin analysis, and the technology has certainly come a long way. After a warm greeting from the Skin Recode team, Dr Danielle asked me a few questions about myself, then conducted a detailed skin analysis.
Powered by AI and the latest tech, the device used for my skin analysis can scan deep into the skin to accurately determine everything from moisture and collagen levels to pigmentation, skin texture, oil production, and more. After scanning the various areas of my face, Dr Danielle pulled up the results on her computer, and we discussed them in detail.
This consultation is fantastic, because it allows the team to customise treatment plans, protocols and product recommendations for your skin’s unique needs. My results were mixed. I learnt that my moisture levels were high (above average for my age, I am proud to say!), I have little to zero sensitivity, good skin texture with very little roughness and normal, healthy pores.
My biggest area of concern was my collagen fibres. Little did I know that my skin lacked collagen, which would make me more prone to developing lines and wrinkles. I was pleased to learn that the few areas of hyperpigmentation I’ve noticed this summer are epidermal, meaning they’re on the surface of my skin, making them much easier to treat than hyperpigmentation that forms in the deeper layers of the skin.
As you can tell, the skin analysis is thorough. It gets emailed to you afterwards, along with product and lifestyle recommendations to help you address your skin concerns and improve the health of your skin.
Based on my results, Dr Danielle determined that my skin was most suited to the Bright Code Activation treatment, one of Skin Recode’s signature facials.
This 60-minute treatment harnesses the power of vitamin C, a potent antioxidant that protects the skin against environmental damage and free radicals, stimulates collagen production, reduces hyperpigmentation and increases the skin’s radiance.
My treatment started with a thorough double cleanse, followed by the application of a vitamin C serum. My therapist then applied a customised peel to help refine my skin’s texture and enhance product penetration. I didn’t feel anything to begin with, but after about two minutes, I began to experience a slight tingle, which intensified into an itchy feeling for a few minutes.
We then started LED light therapy, which lasted about 15-20 minutes. I was slightly sensitive to the light, so my therapist layered a few cotton pads over my eyes before putting the goggles on. LED light therapy enhances treatment results, promoting an even skin tone, boosting collagen, and increasing luminosity.
All in all, the facial was relaxing and, luckily, had no downtime. I looked in the mirror straight after the treatment and immediately noticed that my skin looked smooth and glowy.
It usually takes a few days for a treatment’s results to show, but I could see (and feel) an improvement in my skin’s texture immediately. It felt ultra-smooth and looked much brighter, even after just one session.
The glow lasted in the days that followed, and my skin looked plumper, too. I had an overall brighter, healthier appearance, and with the increased glow and plumpness, my fine lines became less noticeable.
