On a thread

On a threadBeautySouthAfrica visited the trendy Urban Apothecary salon in Wembley Square to learn how eyebrow threading really works. This specific technique originated in India and has now become rather popular in South Africa. This hair removal technique is not just for your brows, but can be used to remove other facial and bodily hairs.

Also known as fatlah or khite, which are Arabic words for threading, it is a great alternative to waxing, and offers less damage to the skin. Eyebrow threading involves using a thin piece of cotton and twisting it into a double stranded thread. This thread is then used to pick up a line of hair and remove it. The beautician may want to tidy it up more by trimming the hairs and brushing them after the process.

This technique allows for a quick, precise, clean hairline. Another added benefit is that it removes the hair from the follicle; therefore it offers longer lasting effects. You would need to go for a repeat visit after about four weeks.

Will have to get into this .Sounds amaizing.

  • I have always got it done and its the only way ladies in India maintain a great brow. In SA i go to indian ladies and generally costs around R 40.

Since i’ve started to thread my eyebrows after waxing and plucking for years i can honestly say i don’t prefer any other method. The clean line defines the shape of your eyebrows better. The art is however to ensure that the beautician is fully trained in this area of skill as the speed at which this is done depends on the amount of pain inflicted. If done at a slow speed the pain is a bit too much too bear, but worth the pain nevertheless. To endorse the longevity of this option, yes, you can go for about a month before having to do it again. Threading gets 2 thumbs up from me.

  • Ive been threading my eyebrows for years. Its much better than waxing, the skin isnt touched at all, so thats good. It is also more precise than waxing. I go to a women from india, and it costs me R28!

In jhb, a salon called pinnacurl in illovo does is for about 100.

    This is an art!

  • I have tried this one. It is pretty great. Picks up even tiniest of the hairs. But the redness I had after was rather too much. Walking in public with red all around my eyebrows was not very pleasant. Seems like my skin is quite sensitive to this.

  • Something I deff still want to try!!

My sister swears by this. Haven’t tried it myself but definitely interested.

  • I heard it’s quite painful, i don’t like pain so i won’t go believe me.

  • Ouch! I’ll never do this.
