On our radar: Terres d’Afrique skincare 2

Have you heard of Terres d’Afrique? An organic skincare brand, Terres d’Afrique captures the unique power of rare African botanicals in science-driven, organic formulas that balance the skin and nourish the senses.

Terres d’Afrique was founded by Dr Stephan Helary, whose work is driven by a deep passion for conservation and an unshakeable love of the earth and its gifts. Born and raised in Madagascar, Dr Helary has deep experience across agricultural science, botany, conservation, and ecology. The name, Terres d’Afrique, is his act of homage and a constant reminder of the wisdom and beauty the “earth of Africa” provides.

Terres d’Afrique makes use of pure organic ingredients of the highest quality in all their skincare products. All their formulations are free from harsh chemicals and animal-derived additives. Most important of all, is that the brand respects the natural environment from which it sources its ingredients. They follow harvesting practices than honour and protect natural ecosystems to ensure a future for these indigenous plants and the communities that live among them.

All Terres d’Afrique products are cruelty-free, certified organic and manufactured in Africa.

What can you expect from the range? Our editor put a few products to the test – here are her favourites:

On our radar: Terres d’Afrique skincare 3

Terres d’Afrique Omumbiri Body Butter
A luxurious, rich body butter fragranced with exotic omumbiri, this non-greasy formulation rejuvenates, moisturises and softens skin.

What we say: “This is such a luxurious formula! It contains jojoba oil, mafura and kigelia, a real power trio that moisturise, nourish, firm, soothe and protect the skin barrier. This body butter has a rich texture that feels luxurious on the skin, yet absorbs with ease and doesn’t leave skin feeling greasy or oily. I love the earthy, natural scent and that it makes my skin feels smooth and silky after application.” – Anien, Editor

Terres d’Afrique Gentle Face Scrub
With sugar, rooibos flakes and marula oil, this exfoliating paste stimulates cell regeneration while removing impurities. Leaves skin feeling silky, refreshed and radiant.

What we say: “I’m very careful of physical scrubs as I’ve come across a couple of exfoliators that contained harsh natural beads, and these left my face red and uncomfortable. This gentle scrub from Terres d’Afrique is a pleasure to use. The exfoliating rooibos flakes and sugar are ultra-gentle on the skin, and effectively remove dry and dead skin cells without causing sensitivity. It smells just like rooibos tea and has a lovely gel-like texture that spreads across the skin with ease.” – Anien, Editor

Terres d’Afrique Deep Cleansing Mask
Enriched with clay, coconut oil and aloe ferox, this natural, oil-based mud mask deep cleans while extracting heavy metals and toxins. The moisturising oil prevents the clay from drying out, while soothing and hydrating the skin.

What we say: “I love a deep cleansing mask, particularly as I struggle with occasional breakouts. I find this mask great for clearing blackheads and congestion. I use it once a week to keep my breakouts under control. It is thick and luxe, and doesn’t leave your skin feeling tight when it dries (one of my pet peeves!). It has a neutral, earthy scent and rinses off easily with some warm water. This is by far one of my favourite products I’ve tried in 2021.” – Anien, Editor

On our radar: Terres d’Afrique skincare 6

Terres d’Afrique Calming Cleanser
This foaming cleanser contains aloe ferox and rooibos for their calming and soothing properties, and moringa oil for its cleansing properties. It is suitable for all skin types, but is particularly great for dehydrated and sensitive skins.

What we say: “Foaming cleansers are my favourite, but I tend to avoid those filled with cheap foaming agents, as they’re known for drying out the skin. This gentle cleanser is filled with goodness and boasts 99.5% ingredients from natural origin – not a nasty artificial foaming agent in sight! It feels soothing and gentle on the skin, yet effectively removes makeup and impurities. It’s a real pleasure to use.” – Anien, Editor
