Review: We tried Inheems, La Motte’s beautiful new bath and body collection

Inheems bath and body products

La Motte Wine Estate, located in the beautiful Franschhoek Valley, is known for its exquisite wines, world-class restaurants and delectable produce. Now, La Motte has introduced Inheems, a luxurious bath-and-body collection inspired by the estate’s indigenous landscape.

Each product in the Inheems range embodies the farm’s scents and stories and is crafted with simplicity and integrity. Guided by the indigenous floral kingdom that flourishes on the mountain slopes in Franschhoek, La Motte put careful consideration into every aspect of the collection, from the raw materials to the packaging.

The products share the attributes of the essential oils they are made of, such as the anti-septic properties of buchu, calming and anti-bacterial properties of Cape Chamomile, anti-inflammatory properties of Geranium, therapeutic and healing properties of Lavandine, the calming and anti-septic properties of Bergamot and the skin toning properties of Grapefruit oil. With nourishing, naturally absorbed moisturisers, the products deodorise, invigorate and rejuvenate.

La Motte’s signature fragrance, called Arômes de La Motte, encapsulates the fynbos with a lingering softness of rose and is present in all the Inheems products, except for the hand soap bars, which feature individual but complementary fragrance profiles.

The range includes a Hand and Body Wash, a Hand and Body Lotion, Soap Bars, and Eye Pillows. Naturally preserved, the products are available in four fragrances: Farm Lavender, Calendula and Farm Geranium, Red Clay and Neroli and Fresh Green Clay with Farm Geranium.

We were gifted a beautiful Inheems parcel containing two Inheems Soap Bars, a Hand and Body Lotion, and a Hand and Body Wash.

“When the Inheems parcel arrived at our office, I was blown away by the beautiful packaging. The simple yet refined design really sets the tone for the range, which is created using well-known indigenous ingredients of the highest quality.

Inheems soap bars

Coming from La Motte, I expected the products to be exceptional, and I wasn’t wrong. Each item is beautifully fragrant, gentle on the skin and lovely in consistency. The scents are warm and familiar, thanks to local ingredients like buchu and lavender.

The Hand and Body Wash (R270.00) has a luxurious texture and foams beautifully without drying the skin. You only need a pea-sized drop, and it leaves your hands delicately fragranced for hours. The Hand and Body Lotion (R270.00) contains extracts of buchu, rooibos, honeybush and Cape aloe to nourish, protect and hydrate the skin. The lotion is soothing and quickly absorbed, leaving no sticky or oily residue on the skin.

Made with 100% plant-based ingredients, the Soap Bars (R150.00) are crafted using the traditional cold-processed soap-making method. The main ingredient is locally-produced olive oil, which leaves skin feeling soft and moisturised.

I’ve really enjoyed using the Inheems collection, and I think the products are a lovely addition to any household. Each item feels luxurious, smells fantastic and is thoughtfully presented.

They also make beautiful gifts, though you might be tempted to keep the products for yourself!”

As La Motte Wine Estate is already known for its exquisite wines, world class restaurants and delectable produce, Inheems – a luxurious bath and body collection inspired by the Estates indigenous Landscape would be quite applicable and natural.
