Why does the eye area age so quickly and what can be done to prevent, minimise and cure these ageing signs?
Dr Maureen Allem from Skin, Body & Health Renewal responds:
“The skin around the eye ages more quickly than the rest of the face because it is considerably thinner than the rest of the face, and it is an area of a lot of dynamic movement… So it “wears out” quicker, if you will.
It is important to look after the eye area in the following ways. Daily use of SPF around the eye area is vital. Hydration around the eye area is also very important. And lastly, treatments around the eye area are very effective, and there are LOADS of treatment options depending on what your goals, needs and budget are. The sooner you start the better!”

I’ve been wondering this exact thing lately! Thanks for the tips.

I dab a bit of my daily SPF (Bioderma SPF50 light) around my eyes before I apply my concealer in the mornings and it doesn’t bother my eyes at all even though they’re very sensitive.

I totally agree the sensitive area of the eye must be pampered with a SPF cream.

When is the right age to start using eye creams?

Hi Sandra, we suggest using an eye cream from the age of 18+. When started early, an eye cream can help to lessen the appearance of wrinkles.

Eye cream is to the eye area is what rain is to a desert.

It is true, I could see a difference after I started to use an eye cream.

It makes perfect sense why it ages quicker, since the area is very thin, but thank you for the tips. I am using a medical uid. What are the measures I can take to make sure if all is well? or I just need to use SPF?

Personally I’m not terribly concerned about ageing eyes. The area below my eye is really dark and because it is so sensitive I’m not sure what can be done about this.

Oh dear, I don’t feel old but when I looked in the mirror the other day I noticed those horrid crows feet. I need to reassess my eye cream.
