If, like the rest of us, you’re feeling the effects of balancing work, a home, a family and a social life, you could probably do with a couple of hours at a spa. Is there anything more relaxing than a massage or a facial? We think not. If you’re based in Gauteng you’ll want to add Revive Wellness Spa to your list of must-visit spas. Tucked away in the heart of the urban jungle, Revive offers a relaxing escape from the bustling city life. Offering everything from massages and facial treatments to nail services, waxing, tinting, tanning and a full hair salon, Revive is your one-stop beauty sanctuary.
BSA team member Nicky was lucky enough to spend a morning at the spa, indulging in some of the best treatments on offer. Here’s what she thought:
“After a particularly stressful past couple of weeks, I was really looking forward to my visit to Revive Wellness Spa. Situated in Highlands North, Johannesburg, Revive is a welcome oasis in the middle of a very busy city!
I was greeted by the lovely Dani, who introduced herself as my therapist for the morning. She then did a complimentary VISIA Complexion Analysis on my face, which revealed that at 35 I have the skin of a 26-year-old (air punch), but that I need to start wearing a proper sunscreen every single day and drink more water. We chatted briefly about the effects of caffeine on the skin and I learnt that for every cup of coffee you drink, you should drink two glasses of water to make up for the dehydrating effects it has on you.
We then went upstairs to the change rooms, where I swapped my clothes for my costume, as well as the fluffy gown and slops which were provided, and then hopped into the Floatation Hydrotherapy pool. This small indoor pool contains a high concentration of salt, which mimics the Dead Sea, and allows you to float effortlessly while you relax for a 30-minute session (which is said to be equal to 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep. Bliss).
After a quick shower to rinse off the salt water, Dani showed me to one of the therapy rooms where I was going to enjoy a massage. I was initially supposed to have a Hot Stone Massage, but Dani thought I might enjoy the Revive Signature Candle Massage – which I absolutely loved! Along with the warm scent of the lemongrass soy candle wax, this massage was exactly what I needed for a few tight leg muscles and the knots in my shoulders and neck. I’ve never had a candle massage before but can confidently say I’ve now been converted.
I then went back downstairs to the Nail Bar, where I had a File & Paint with a Morgan Taylor shade, and then upstairs to the Hair Salon where I had a Wash & Blow which included a treatment for my dry hair and was finished off with a flat iron which left my hair silky smooth and feeling super soft.
The team at Revive Wellness Spa are so warm and friendly, and were able to answer all my questions (especially about my blonde hair and the issues I’m having with it through highlighting). If it hadn’t been a week day I would’ve definitely spent some time making the most of the Spa Facilities (available to use for free with any treatment booked), especially the gorgeous indoor Hydrotherapy Pool and day beds.
The spa itself is beautiful, unpretentious and welcoming, which really makes it the perfect day spa. I highly recommend Revive Wellness Spa and am looking forward to my return there. I left feeling relaxed, with less aches and pains, freshly painted nails and the kind of salon hair which you don’t ever want to wash so that it lasts that way forever.”
