“It’s been a real pleasure putting Bioderma’s Sensibio range to the test. I don’t consider my skin to be sensitive in general, however, I am prone to bouts of sensitivity from time to time, especially when I overdo my product testing (which happens more often than it should).
This range arrived on my desk at just the right time, as I’d overdone the vitamin C and the skin on my neck was feeling bumpy, itchy and uncomfortable. I switched over to Sensibio and hoped for the best. These were the products I put to the test:
Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micellar Water Makeup Remover
Ask any beauty editor or makeup artist what their favourite makeup remover is and they’re bound to mention this iconic micellar water. I repurchase this over and over because I just can’t get quite enough of it, and haven’t used anything else that’s as effective. I use it as the first step in my evening routine to remove my makeup, sunscreen and impurities before cleansing. It’s gentle yet extremely effective – I’m always a little shocked at how much makeup, product and dirt comes off my skin!
Bioderma Sensibio H2O Eye Biphasic Micellar Makeup Remover – Waterproof
This was my first time trying this product – I usually use the regular micellar water all over my face, including my eyes. This makeup remover is really effective at removing waterproof mascara and stubborn eyeliner, and importantly, it’s extremely gentle too. There’s no stinging or irritation and I love that it’s suitable for my sensitive eyes (I have allergies and wear contact lenses so I like using something extra gentle).
Bioderma Sensibio Gel Cleanser
A gel formula is my favourite when it comes to cleansers – it might just be in my head, but somehow a milky or creamy cleanser never leaves my skin feeling quite as fresh. This cleanser is very gentle. It leaves my skin feeling cleansed and refreshed without being tight or dry afterwards. I like that it isn’t fragranced and the texture feels lovely – it glides across my skin with ease and a little goes a long way.
Bioderma Sensibio Defensive Serum
It’s notoriously difficult to find a serum that doesn’t exacerbate sensitivity as a lot of anti-ageing ingredients leave skin feeling a bit sensitive. This is an absolute winner and in my opinion, the star of the range. The formula is based on this: External factors like pollution and stress can weaken the skin’s defences and accelerate the ageing process. This serum was designed to help slow down the signs of ageing caused by external irritants and restore its natural function, radiance and moisture. This was the perfect product to use when my skin was feeling irritable. It instantly leaves skin feeling soothed and I love how quickly and easily it absorbs. It has a runny texture and you only need a few drops to cover your face, neck and décolletage (again, a little goes a long way). I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks but would be really interested to see the long-term effects, especially in terms of its anti-ageing benefits.
Bioderma Sensibio Defensive Active Soothing Cream
I adore this moisturiser – it has a light and fresh texture and it feels lovely on my skin. It absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave you with an oily or sticky complexion. But don’t let that fool you – it’s still an ultra-hydrating formula that helps increase the skin’s softness and suppleness.
Overall, I was very impressed with this range. The irritable skin on my neck felt instantly soothed as soon as I applied the serum and moisturiser and my skin felt happy and bump-free after two days, which is a record for me. I loved how quickly the products got to work and I continued using them even after my sensitivity cleared up as I really enjoyed them and liked how soft and smooth my skin felt. If you’re prone to sensitivity of any kind, I’d highly recommend Bioderma Sensibio.”
