We went to Spectacle World for a Frame Styling Consultation, and the experience was unmatched

Anyone who has ever experienced vision problems knows that an appointment with an optometrist can be life-changing. That moment when you put on your new pair of specs and suddenly the whole world is clear is very difficult to describe.

Finding the right optometrist is vital not only for the health of your eyes and for getting the right prescription, but also for helping you choose the eyewear that’s right for you.

While most optometrists have someone available to help you choose a frame, the process can be pretty generic. You are usually left to wander around, ask to try on a few pairs and then ultimately end up with something run-of-the-mill.

That’s not the case at Spectacle World. Located in N1 City Value Centre in Cape Town, Spectacle World (which is part of Mullers Optometrists), offers something that no other local optometrist does: a full Frame Styling Consultation by a certified Eyewear Stylist, trained by the prestigious Eyewear Styling Academy in London.

That means that once your eyes have been tested and you’re ready to choose your frame, you have an expert at your disposal to help you make the best decision.

Now you may wonder – is it necessary? Why not just choose any generic frame that feels comfortable on your face? Think of eyewear as an extension of your style personality. When you choose your clothing and accessories, you select items that suit your features and express your personality. Whether you’re creative and artistic, bold and expressive or a little bit shy and reserved, your clothing will reflect that. Why shouldn’t your eyewear?

Your spectacles should enhance your features and make you feel confident. After all, you’re going to be wearing them a lot, so you need to like the way they look.

We visited Spectacle World late last year so that our Editorial Assistant could experience an eye test and a Frame Styling Consultation. The experience was both unique and eye-opening (excuse the pun!).

Adele Camarena, associate at Spectacle World, conducted a thorough eye test before taking us through the frame-styling process. If you think your optometrist has a lot of frames to choose from, you haven’t seen anything yet!

Spectacle World’s variety of brands and styles is unlike anything we’ve ever encountered. Without Adele’s help, it would be easy to get overwhelmed by the sheer scale of the selection available. They stock many of the familiar brands we all know and love, but what’s really impressive is their selection of lesser-known international brands. There are so many fantastic, quality brands around, but most of the time, you see the same ones over and over again. Spectacle World introduced us to brands we had never come across before, and it was refreshing to see something new.

Adele’s approach is fantastic. First, you fill out a form that asks you to indicate your style preferences and answer some basic questions about your personality. Adele then takes your features into account to determine whether you are warm or cool and whether you look better in lighter or deeper colours.

Using this info, she selects a variety of frames on the floor for you to try on. You are, of course, also encouraged to browse and choose some styles you like. She brought over a few frames after just a couple of minutes, and the trying-on process began.

At a glance, the frames she selected were not necessarily styles that our Editorial Assistant would have chosen for himself. In fact, the frames he chose were vastly different. What was interesting was that he loved every single frame she chose for him more than the ones he took off the display himself.

He ended up choosing the very first frame she told him to try on – her first choice, and ultimately, his too. The experience showed that having that trained assistance makes all the difference. He would never have chosen the specs he now wears and loves had it not been for Adele’s expertise.

After selecting the frame, our Editorial Assistant went through the fitting process to ensure a comfortable fit and correct focal points, and then we were on our way. His spectacles were ready for collection a week later, and he has been so pleased; the style and fit are perfect for him.

The entire experience at Spectacle World, from start to finish, is easy and enjoyable. Everyone is highly knowledgeable, and Adele’s styling skills are exceptional.

What’s more, the whole team at Spectacle World is so lovely to deal with. Everyone greets you with a smile, everyone is helpful and patient, and there is a general upbeat and happy atmosphere when you walk through the door. It makes such a difference when people are passionate about what they do – it elevates the entire customer experience.

We could not recommend Spectacle World’s Frame Styling Consultation enough. Whether you are completely undecided about what you want, or you already have an idea in mind, Adele and her team will offer you the very best selection that not only suits you and enhances your features, but is also made from quality materials and built to last.

Thank you so much to Adele and the rest of the team for an enlightening morning and fantastic experience. It was truly unlike any other optometrist appointment we’ve had in the past.
