Create a party look with natural hair

A regular afro can get quite boring when your hair is not in braids or any other protective style. A twist out is the perfect solution to creating a more festive and fun look with your current style. You’ll need to plait your hair the night before so that it has time to dry in it’s new style.

You’ll need the following tools:
A spray bottle
Elastic bands or hair clamps
Brush or comb
Hair food
Hair oil or serum

Step 1: Shampoo and condition your hair.
Step 2: Section your hair in parts and decide which way you would like your curls to “fall.”
Step 3: Take a section of your hair and spritz with water before moisturizing with hair butter or cream.
Step 4: Divide hair into sections depending on the size of curl you would like. If you want bigger, looser curls use more hair and looser plaits. If you want smaller, tighter curls use less hair and tighter plaits.
Step 5: Plait hair according to which style you’re after. If you want your curl to fall to the front, plait it towards your forehead.
Step 6: Repeat for each section and cover hair with a silk or satin scarf overnight.
Step 7: Unplait your hair and depending on how defined you want your curls, apply some oil to your fingers and use them to separate the strands of your hair. Also work some oil into the scalp so the lines of the sections or plaits don’t look so distinct.

Depending on the length of your hair, this should take you anything from 30 minutes to an hour. The style should last you about two days if you sleep with a silk scarf or pillowcase to protect the curls.
