Lengthening, volumizing or curling – mascara opens your eyes, accentuates your lashes and gives you that “wide awake” look. It’s without a doubt your most powerful make-up product as it instantly transforms your appearance, without making a big statement.
But with so many formulas on the market, which one should you try? We recommend selecting one based on your needs. Are your lashes short and stumpy? Then a lengthening formula is best suited to you. Sparse and thin lashes? Then a volumizing formula could do the trick. And if you use an eyelash curler, then you might want to complement it with a curling formula.
Here, the latest mascaras on our radar:
L’Oréal Paris Volume Million Lashes, R169.95
black|Up Volumizing and Lengthening Mascara, R285
Rimmel Scandaleyes Rockin’ Curves Mascara, R109.95
LASHEM Double trouble Mascara, R295.00
Lancôme Hypnôse Mascara, R335
LCN Dragonfly Mascara in Love Affair, R395
Catrice Better Than False Lashes Mascara, R79.95
Avon Big & Daring Volume Mascara, R129.95
Which one are you keen to try?

I find that all mascaras i’ve used have made my eye lashes fall out. Can someone tell me why this happens and what mascara would be suitable for me?

Avon works ladies and it makes the lashes look longer too

Lancome is the best but without a lash primer no mascara delivers. I have learned that you need a good lash primer before applying any mascara, it not only makes your lashes so much longer but also avoids the ugly clumping that often happens

I am definitely going to give the Avon a try- love the look of the thick brush!

I can’t find charcoal/dark grey mascara anywhere. I am 78, black and grey looks awful, dark grey is soft and does not make one look like an old clown. I live near to Port Elizabeth. I am at the moment trying to stretch the remnants of mascara I bought in the UK. Please help!

Hi Shirley. We are currently not aware of any grey mascaras. We suggest trying a subtle brown shade for a natural make-up look.

Lancôme Hypnose is my ultimate favourite *sighs* but I am definitely going to try the Catrice, as their products are fab and fit the budget.
