iS Clinical Fire & Ice Facial review

iS Clinical Fire & Ice Facial review 1

Known in the US as the ‘Red Carpet Facial Treatment,” the iS Clinical Fire & Ice Facial gives you that coveted Hollywood glow, instantly brightening, tightening and smoothing the skin.

The legendary Fire & Ice Facial is designed to rapidly and safely resurface and rejuvenate the skin with little or no down time. This professional treatment helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and improves the look of uneven skin tone and blemish-prone skin, resulting in a more youthful complexion.

It is the perfect treatment before a special occasion such as a wedding or function, and is suitable for all skin types.

What can you expect from the treatment?
The “Fire” part of the peel is an Intensive Resurfacing Masque clinically formulated with 18% unbuffered glycolic acid, lactic acid, citric acid, malic acid, retinol, vitamin B3 and potent antioxidants, including green tea extracts. The treatment can be used on the face, neck and décolleté.

The “Ice” part as it is known, is a cool rejuvenating mask, soothing and intensively hydrating, containing hyaluronic acid, Aloe Vera gel, Japanese green tea extracts, liquorice extracts, grape seed extracts and rosemary extracts. This pampering part of the facial cools the initial peel and leaves the skin glowing.

Our editor visited Laserderm Medical Aesthetic Centre to experience this treatment – here’s her take on it.

iS Clinical Fire & Ice Facial review 2

“This was my first iS Clinical treatment and also the first treatment I’ve experienced of this kind, so I was really excited to see if it lived up to the hype. Firstly, I must just mention that the Laserderm Medical Aesthetic Centre I visited in Claremont (Cape Town) was absolutely lovely, and followed all Covid protocols (I highly recommend you pay them a visit if you stay in Cape Town).

My treatment started off with a skincare consultation. My skincare professional and I chatted a bit about the skincare products I’m currently using and what types of treatments I’ve undergone in the past. Because I’m an avid vitamin C and retinol user and I regularly go for peels, she was confident that my skin would tolerate the “fire” part of the treatment well.

I hopped onto the bed and we were ready to begin. The treatment started with a double cleanse, first with the iS Clinical Cleansing Complex, followed by the iS Clinical Warming Honey Cleanser. The honey cleanser was unlike anything I have ever experienced before. This rich treatment cleanser contains the purest raw honey, royal jelly, and propolis, which resulted in a real sensory experience – it literally smelled like real honey was being massaged into my skin! But before you ask – it wasn’t gooey or sticky like honey at all. It contains papaya enzymes and green tea extracts to exfoliate the skin and had a gentle warming effect as it was massaged into my skin.

After cleansing it was time for the “fire” part of the facial, which takes the form of the Intensive Resurfacing Masque. Did you ever eat fire balls as a child? This mask has the exact scent of fireballs (imagine a sweet yet fiery cinnamon scent) and it’ll take you straight down memory lane.

My therapist explained that if you’re not accustomed to professional treatments or active ingredients in your skincare routine, your skin could be quite sensitive to this part of the treatment. I didn’t experience any discomfort, only a slight tingle, which intensified once the mask was emulsified with a bit of water, and rinsed off after around three or four minutes. Throughout this part of the treatment, my skin felt warm and there was a very mild burning sensation, but no pain and no major discomfort.

The mask was washed off and the “ice” Rejuvenating Mask was then applied, and I think this was my favourite part of the treatment. The blue gel was gently massaged onto my skin and I felt an immediate cool rush, which was intensified when my therapist turned on a fan to blow air onto my skin. The mask had a refreshing peppermint scent that reminded me of the burst of freshness you experience when sucking on a menthol breath mint.

Once this mask was removed, my therapist applied two iS Clinical serums, an eye cream and an SPF to my skin. The entire treatment was done in less than an hour.

I loved how sensorial the treatment was. My therapist incorporated a lot of massage, which I absolutely love, as it not only makes the treatment more enjoyable, but it also helps boost blood circulation and radiance. Each product has a unique scent that added an unexpected and enjoyable element to the treatment. The combination of the physical touch and fragrances of the products gave it a real “spa” feeling – despite being a clinical treatment.

I love that there is no down time. I had one or two slightly red areas when I left the clinic, but the redness subsided in less than an hour. My skin looked smooth and radiant – I had a real post-facial glow! And best of all, the glow lasted. Two days after the treatment my skin still looked radiant and plump.

I can imagine this to be the perfect treatment before a big event like a wedding, and I would highly recommend it, not just for the results, but also for the enjoyable experience. Does it live up to the hype? Absolutely!”
