Thinking of colouring your hair? You don’t have to spend a small fortune (or a whole morning) at the salon. Revlon has made at-home hair colour easy and achievable with 16 beautiful shades in the Colorstay Longwear Cream Color range.
Offering eight weeks of no-fade, vibrant colour and 100% grey coverage, Revlon Colorstay Longwear Cream Color gives you the freedom of self-expression without a hefty price tag.
Our editor recently embarked on her home hair colour journey to put Revlon’s eight-week promise to the test. Here’s how it went down:
“After colouring my hair at home for more than a decade, I took a break to go back to my natural hair colour. Fast forward two years, and the mousy brown I was born with wasn’t doing my confidence any favours.
I jumped at the chance to test Revlon’s Colorstay Longwear Cream Color, and opted for shade 4.15 Cool Chocolate, a gorgeous, rich chocolate brown to match my dark eyes and eyebrows. It’s now been more than eight weeks since I coloured my hair, and I am so pleased with the overall results.
First things first. The colouring process is straightforward, even for first-timers. The box comes with easy instructions and a pair of gloves – it’s essential to wear them to avoid staining your skin. Pro tip: Whenever I colour my hair, I apply a little bit of petroleum jelly to my ears, as well as the nape of my neck and just beneath my hairline, before I begin. This helps to prevent the colourant from staining your skin should you mess a bit.
Apply the colour from root to tip, section by section, ensuring you saturate your hair with the colourant. I clipped each section back as soon as I completed it.
When all the sections were covered, I emptied the remains of the bottle onto the lengths of my hair and massaged it thoroughly to ensure I didn’t miss any spots. I have long hair, so I needed two boxes.
Now the wait started! I set my timer for 30 minutes and waited for the magic to happen. Once the time passed, I got into the shower and ran a little warm water over my head, massaging it into my scalp and through my hair.
A LOT of colour rinses out – don’t be alarmed by the sight of brown/purple/red water; this is normal, and you need to rinse thoroughly before applying the whole sachet of conditioner. I don’t often use conditioner on my roots because my scalp is oily; however, I applied this sachet all over my scalp and throughout the lengths of my hair to ensure I got enough nourishment post-colour.
You only need to leave it on for two minutes before rinsing it out. And that’s it! I like to blow-dry my hair after colouring, as the heat always seems to intensify shine. As you can see from my before-and-after photos, the deeper colour is gleaming and vibrant.
Overall, this hair colour was a pleasure to use. The process was simple and easy, and the formula is filled with nourishing ingredients like Murumuru Butter and Macadamia Oil to keep hair soft and moisturised.
I don’t have any grey hair to cover just yet, but what I can attest to is the evenness of this colour. My hair was vibrant from root to tip. I received so many compliments and couldn’t get enough of my new colour.
The real test lay in the colour’s longevity. After four weeks, I applied the Color Booster Mask, which intensifies and prolongs your hair colour. Although I hadn’t noticed any fade after four weeks, the mask definitely gave me a boost, resulting in shinier, richer hair.
Eight weeks without fade is almost unheard of, so it’s a major claim to make. I am so thrilled to admit that Revlon delivers on this promise. Not only did my colour not fade after eight weeks, but my hair was still soft and shiny, it looked vibrant, and I experienced absolutely no dryness or damage.
To say I am impressed is an understatement. I have not achieved results like this with any other home colour product, and it blows my mind how easy Revlon makes it to achieve professional-looking colour at home.
It’s such an affordable product at only R142 per box, especially when you consider how much it costs to have your hair coloured at a salon.
If you’re tempted to colour your hair at home, I would highly recommend Revlon Colorstay Longwear Cream Color for long-lasting confidence.” Anien – Editor

I will never buy anything else! I wash my hair daily and I would not have to even dye it after 8 weeks if it was not for my grey roots popping out! Have used various dyes for years and this one is a winner
