Review: We tried INOAR’s Booster Japanese Silk Treatment

By now you’ve likely heard of INOAR’s highly popular Japanese Silk Treatment. Formulated with a variety of superfoods and amino acids, this in-salon treatment is designed to strengthen, revitalise and boost hydration, as well as stimulate hair growth and decrease hair loss.

Our editor visited Excentric on Point on Regent Road, Sea Point, to experience the Booster Japanese Silk Treatment.

“I’ve been very lucky to have healthy hair with minimal concerns. However, there seems to be two things that I just can’t seem to shake: frizz – especially when it rains – and lacklustre, dull or ‘tired-looking’ hair. Some home care products improve these concerns more than others, but to really achieve the results I’m after, I need an in-salon treatment from time to time.

I’m already a major Japanese Silk Treatment fan after experiencing incredible results back when it launched, so I was excited to try the Booster version. The great thing about INOAR’s professional treatments is that your stylist can combine different treatment products to create a customised solution based on your hair’s unique needs.

For my hair, my stylist mixed about two-thirds Japanese Silk Treatment (for hydration) with one-third B-Perfect Intense Treatment (for protein), and she also mixed in the Glycolic Force ampoule to give me an even bigger boost and more dramatic results.

To start, she washed my hair with a deep cleansing shampoo. After gentle towel-drying, she sprayed the renowned Magic ONE 7 Reconstructor Spray into my hair and combed through. If you’ve not yet heard of this new product, you’re missing out. INOAR literally cannot keep up with the orders as it keeps selling out faster than they can replenish it. It instantly improves the hair’s condition while detangling, maintaining colour, protecting from heat, recovering elasticity and so much more.

My hair was then blow-dried about 90% dry, and then the treatment mixture was applied from root to tip and left for 20 minutes. During this time I could sit back and relax, and enjoy a delicious coffee prepared by one of the Excentric team members.

After 20 minutes, we headed back to the basin and my stylist rinsed my hair until the majority – but not all – of the product was rinsed out. It’s important to keep around 30% of the product in the hair for best results.

My hair was then towel-dried and a few pumps of the INOAR UAU Anti-Frizz Serum was combed through. Another best-seller, this popular serum transforms your hair with intense shine and a smoothing effect when exposed to the heat of a hairdryer.

To seal the cuticle and lock in the treatment, my stylist then blow-dried my hair completely and once dry, she flat-ironed my hair, section by section.

There’s a lot I could write about my hair’s appearance afterwards, but the results really speak for themselves. If you look at my before and after images, you’ll see that my frizz was eliminated, my shine was restored and my hair looked healthy, soft and strong. I felt like I had finally achieved the ‘glass hair’ I’ve been wanting for years!

Three weeks post-treatment, and I am still enjoying the benefits. The biggest change I’ve observed is the major reduction in frizz. Even though my hair is straight, I experience a lot of frizz in humid as well as wintery conditions. I’m not exaggerating when I say that I have had just about zero frizz since my treatment, even when my hair gets wet or damp in the rain.

My hair is smoother and shinier, and even my ends (which tend to get quite dry), feel soft. Blow-drying and flat-ironing is so much faster than usual because my hair is more manageable and needs less styling, so it’s saving me a lot of time. Depending on how often you wash your hair and the products you use at home, the results will last around six weeks. It’s important to use sulphate-free products only. I’ve been using my Glycolic Force Shampoo and Conditioner, and it’s really helped to maintain my results.

This treatment is suitable for all hair types, and I mean literally all hair. From straight and wavy to curls and coils of all shapes and sizes. While I was amazed at the results in my own hair, I was blown away by some of the before and after images I saw of curly and coily hair. Curls and coils become softer, more defined and extremely shiny. Plus, no frizz in sight – regardless of your hair type.

The experience and results exceeded my expectations. The treatment is safe, effective and customisable based on your needs. It’s really important to me to support brands that are conscious of their environmental impact, and INOAR is known for the strides they make in following eco-friendly practices. Plus, they don’t test on animals, which is another important factor I consider when choosing a brand.
