Styling iron showdown

Heat styling is a hot topic for us at BeautySA. ‘Are the plates too hot’, ‘should they be used on wet hair’, ‘how often can I use my flatiron’ are typical questions we’ve had to answer recently. But the most important advice we can give you is to never use an inferior product. Below we’ve listed our favourite stylers at the moment…

Styling iron showdown: GlamPalm Standard Magic

GlamPalm Standard Magic Hair Styler, R1,899

Specs:
• custom ceramic plates with Healing Stone tech
• rapid heating and heat recovery
• adjustable temperature settings (150 – 200 degrees)
• 3-metre swivel cord
• heat resistant cap
• automatic shut off
• sectioning clips

We love: the Healing Stone technology that actually heals your hair as it styles. The negative ions emitted from the plates smooth the cuticle layer, minimising keratin damage. Oh, and it also has this pretty nifty vibrate function – it’s a great reminder if you’ve kept the plates on your strands for too long!

Styling iron showdown: BaByliss Sublim' Touch 2-in-1

BaByliss Sublim’ Touch 2-in-1

Specs:
• temperature regulator with LED screen (130 – 200 degrees)
• flat and curved plates
• ceramic-coated Sublim’ touch plates
• locking system for plates
• automatic switch off
• swivel cord

We love: the curling top plates that make it just as easy to curl as it is to straighten your locks. Simply turn the styler 180 degrees upwards and slowly glide it over the length of your hair.

Styling iron showdown: Toni&Guy Professional Straightner

Toni&Guy Professional Straightener

Specs:
•
temperature control and lock with LED screen (80 – 230 degrees)
• ceramic tourmaline floating plates
• auto shut off
• 3-metre swivel cord

We love: the super fast speed with which the styler heats up. You can literally watch the temperature rise in less than 60 seconds on the sleek and stylishly designed LED screen.

I recently bought myself a Glampalm. I was previously using GHD. Best decision I’ve made with regard to my hair, ever! It doesn’t pull, leaves my hair glossy and it actually has 11 heat settings, including a ‘clinic’ setting for use with certain treatments. I love, love, love it. I will never go back to GHD.
