A highlighting pen does more than its name suggests – yes, it adds some shine and can illuminate areas you want to draw attention to, but it’s also key in minimising the appearance of imperfections, dark circles around the eye area and fine lines.
Plus, if you opt for one with extra benefits, you could find hydrating properties, an SPFÂ and colour correction functions. Apply it to your under-eye area, on the top part of your cheekbones, along the middle of your nose, or anywhere you feel needs a bit of cover or shine.
Here, the six highlighting and concealer pens we’ve currently got our eye on:
Garnier BB Cream Eye Roll-On Miracle Skin Perfector, R69.95
ck one 3-in-1 concealer, R305
Shiseido Sheer Eye Zone Corrector, R395
Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream Eyes, R295
Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Correcting and Highlighting Perfector, R245
Bourjois 123 Perfect CC Eye Cream, R109,95
Have you tried any of these?

I tried the Essence one for dark circles but it didn’t help much. I will try the Garnier one.

I prefer the Smashbox cream but how does the Revlon Colorstay concealer compare?

Might try the Bourjois. Maybelline also does good highlighters. They really help to brighten my under eyes and make it look like I’ve actually gotten some sleep when I haven’t. :)

The Bobbi Brown tinted eye brightener is great but gives a very natural finish. I prefer using a concealer that is a shade lighter to highlight. However, I am tempted to to out the Smashbox one now.

I would like to know which products are normally used for contouring? Would any of these work?

Hi Starlin. While the above highlighting/concealing pens would certainly form part of your contour routine, you would still require a bronzer to add definition.

I usually buy concealers in a shade or 2 lighter and use it on the high points of my face. Really brightens and highlights beautifully. I’m going to try the Smashbox one as it looks great.

These are expensive and I have never found a concealer that matches my skin tone and covers properly. Very frustrating!

I am all for concealers, and highlighters etc, but don’t you think these babies are a bit over priced? At the end of the day you’re going to wash them off. I get that they make you look amazing!! But I don’t know if the everyday girl can spend that much on a concealer, I know I can’t! Plus I wonder how long they last? Like how many uses could you get out of one? hmmmm :) Just my thoughts anyways.
